Platis Gialos beach in Sifnos island, Cyclades: Located on the southern side of Sifnos island, Platis Gialos is among the largest beaches in Cyclades. Its name actually means spacious waterside and this is one of the most popular and organized beaches in Sifnos. Lined up with sunbeds, umbrellas, seaside taverns and Sifnos beach studios, Platis Gialos also has many shops and services, like groceries. Visitors love the golden sand and the crystal water, while few workshops in the village will let you know about the traditional pottery of the island.
On the slopes of the mountain above Platis Gialos beach is the Monastery of Panagia tou Vounou (Lady Mary of the Mountain), which was founded in 1813 and offers breathtaking view of the bay below. In close distance to Platis Gialos is also the White Tower, the most famous of the 55 ancient towers of Sifnos that lays today in bad condition.
