Platanos is a nice seaside village considered the administrative capital of Leros island. With interesting urban structure, Platanos has both small traditional houses and Neoclassical mansions. Most houses and buildings are painted in vibrant colours creating a cheerful atmosphere. Narrow paved paths cross the old centre of the village where visitors can see small houses with flowered yards.
Over the years, Platanos has developed few tourist facilities, including upscale hotels, restaurants and cafeterias. There are also many shops and local services, such as banks and taxis. The terminal of the bus in Leros is also found in Platanos. From the top of the village there are 300 steps leading up to the Medieval Castle of Leros.
