Top attractions in Kythnos

Kythnos is a small island with nice villages, beaches and few attractions. Most sightseeing in Kythnos are churches and museums, such as the church of Panagia Kanala which is the protector of the island and two small museums, the Byzantine Museum and the Folklore Museum in the village of Driopida. Many other churches are scattered around the island and in the premises of villages.

An interesting Kythnos sightseeing is also the Cave of Katafyki, located in a walking distance from Driopida, with interesting stalactites and rock formations. In Kythnos, do not also miss the chance to visit the Thermal Spa in Loutra, on the northern side of the island, to see this fine Neoclassical building and maybe try a thermal bath.

The church of Panagia Kanala is the protector saint of Kythnos island and celebrates with a large festival on August 15th. This beautiful church is found at the village of Kanala, on the top of a hill. Due to its location, it offers fantastic view to the Aegean Sea. Tradition says that the church was constructed after the locals found a miraculous icon of Virgin Mary. This icon was found in the sea, in the strait (kanali in Greek) between Kythnos and Serifos.
