Kefalonia Drogarati Cave

The wonderful cave of Drogarati in Kefalonia is full of stalactites and stalagmites

At a distance of 5 km from Sami town, Drogarati Cave is a true miracle of nature. Although this cave with the fantastic stalactites and stalagmites was discovered in the 18th century, when an earthquake revealed its entrance, it was as early as 1963 that it opened to the public. The stalactites and stalagmites inside the cave, formed after millions of years of procedure, have wonderful shapes.

According to speleologists, Drogarati Cave in Kefalonia is about 150 million years old. Humidity inside the cave reaches 90% and the temperature is constant at 18oC. The cave has a long corridor leading to two main rooms. One room is the Royal Balcony, as it is called, that gives view to the other room, the Chamber of Exaltation. This chamber has wonderful acoustics and in fact, few musical concerts have taken place there in the past, as it has hosting capacity for 500 people.
